German Graduate Program

The German section at Purdue consists of five tenured or tenure-track professors, one visiting assistant professor, the undergraduate advisor, and one lecturer. There are also approximately fifteen teaching assistants offering basic and intermediate language courses.

The Department offers various tracks:

German literature and culture,or linguistics and second language acquisition in German. Our teaching assistants receive excellent professional training.

They are already immersed into teaching undergraduate students while pursuing their own graduate studies and they are being prepared for the teaching profession in praxis-oriented and theoretically sound ways. Most of our graduate students are supported by teaching assistantships and fellowships, especially for the writing of their doctoral dissertations, in a competitive basis. They are an international, diverse, and wonderfully dynamic group.

There is a chapter of the German national honorary, Delta Phi Alpha, on campus. We are also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and have media assistants on staff.

Purdue University is a public, land-grant university and a member of the Big Ten Conference. Enrollment is approximately 38,000 students (31,000 undergraduate and 7,000 graduate).

The large, beautifully landscaped campus is located in West Lafayette , Indiana , along the Waba sh River .

The University Libraries contain book and periodical collections of more than 2 million volumes. Local library resources are supplemented by the millions of items of research materials held by the Center for Research Libraries in Chicago , which offers faculty and students access to their materials.
