Keynote Information

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Purdue University has three student representatives from the different graduate programs offered. The representatives are elected by current graduate students by simple majority vote. Their two main roles consist in the organization of the Annual Graduate Symposium and the linkage between the Graduate Student Association of Purdue and students within the Department.

The Senator is the head of the organization and attends meetings with other pertinent associations outside of the FLL Department. The other representatives collaborate providing input collected from students in their specific fields that are discussed in the meetings. In addition all representatives work toward the improvement of the relationships between graduate students in the department and their graduate peers in other departments as well as faculty members and students in other institutions.

Since the organization of the annual symposium requires a considerable amount of effort and planning all representatives work together on the raising of funds for the event, the invitation of the keynote speaker, updating of the webpage, promotion of the call for papers among other endeavors.

This year’s representatives are students of literature and linguistics from two different language programs: Chris, PhD student in German Linguistics; Becky, Master’s Student in Spanish Literature and Ivette, PhD student in Latin American Literature.
